News from the National Association of Realtors is
promising. Based on the somewhat uneven
but higher sales pattern in January and February, the association is predicting
existing home sales will increase by as much as 10 percent this year. If this happens, home sales will reach the
highest level in five years.
There is additional data that supports the NAR’s prediction
of a housing recovery. Although pending
homes sales fell a seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent from January to February
2012, sales were up 9.2 percent from the same time last year. A similar trend can be seen in for existing
home sales which were down from January to February, but up 8.8 percent from a
year ago. Sales in the Boston area were
30.5% higher in February 2012 than sales in February 2011.
In towns like Arlington and Winchester, increased sales
prices may be linked to the low inventory.
Over the last several months, the number of homes on the market in
Arlington and Winchester has been notably low.
With fewer homes on the market, sellers are able to get more for their
home. This downward trend in inventory
can be seen on a National level.
Nationally, the number of homes on the market in February 2012 was 22.4%
lower than the housing inventory in February 2011.
What this means for
homeowners in Arlington, Winchester and surrounding towns, is that now may be a
good time to put your house on the market.
The increase in sales prices combined with the low inventory can help
sellers get the maximum price for their home.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Why do we use it?
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
Where does it come from?
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

With all the great weather we’ve had this summer, hopefully you’ve had a chance to take advantage of the Arlington’s Minuteman Bikeway.
The Minuteman Bikeway is an 11-mile paved bike and pedestrian-friendly route that passes through the historic towns of Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington and Bedford. It is one of the most popular and successful rail-trails in the U.S.
The Bikeway draws all kinds of people, from joggers to avid cyclists, teens on rollerblades and moms strolling with their infants. It has been called “a new type of Main Street where neighbors and strangers alike come together while riding, walking or skating on the path”.
Since the Bikeway conveniently connects to the Alewife MBTA station, on weekdays the Bikeway may be filled with commuters seeking an easy way to get into Boston while avoiding automobile traffic.
Although the Bikeway is busiest during the warm weather months, since the towns of Arlington and Lexington plow their sections of the Bikeway, the path can be enjoyed year round and is frequented by cross-country skiers in the winter months.
If you haven’t had a chance to use the Bikeway this summer, today might be a good day for you to get out there and join the many people who have discovered this outdoor treasure in our community
